Major Contaminated Sediment Sites Database

Welcome to the Major Contaminated Sediment Sites (MCSS) Database, a joint effort of  Applied Environmental Management, Inc. and ARCADIS (formerly Blasland, Bouck & Lee, Inc.).

The MCSS Database has been compiled to collect and organize, in one location, pertinent information on major contaminated sediment remediation projects in the United States. The Database, which has been assembled in an organized, easy-to-use format, has been developed to fill an information void.

Critical project-related questions that are addressed in the Database include:

  • Was the remedial target in sediment derived from the primary remedial goal?
  • Was achievement of either the remedial target or the primary remedial goal demonstrated?
  • What are the project sizes and how are they changing? and,
  • What has been the equipment used and what were the performance, cost, and repetitive difficulties of the remedial methods?

The following citation is suggested when referring to the Database in published literature:

"Major Contaminated Sediment Sites Database;  Sept. 2004 as updated 2008."

Please contact the SMWG Webmaster, Kathy Hammers, via email at khammers@honigman.com for requests for documents relating to the MCSS Database.

The MCSS Database is available for download as  a series of PDF files created using Adobe Acrobat.   Zipped files are available for the entire database, or by each EPA Region.

The Database is provided as a series of PDF files to allow downloading and eventually, online viewing using Adobe Acrobat Reader. At the present time, the Database may be viewed or downloaded as PDF files sorted by US EPA Region or the entire Database as one file.  Later, each of the individual project reports will be available by a direct link. An index of projects is provided below to allow easy cross referencing of project names to  project identification numbers (Project ID's).
